While state lawmakers in Orange County have put forward legislation to pull out of the MTA over congestion pricing and sub-standard service, Rockland’s County Executive isn’t sure yet that’s the way to go for Rockland. Ed Day says it’s more complicated than simply walking away…
Orange County State Senator James Skoufis of the 42nd District last week introduced legislation that would allow Orange County to leave the MTA. Skoufis says despite contributing significant revenue to the authority, train service is too infrequent and there’s also the lack of a one-seat train ride into Manhattan. Skoufis says leaving the MTA would generate taxpayer savings by getting rid of a number of the authority’s taxes including payroll, gas, corporate surcharge, vehicle registration and drivers’ license fees, and more.
