Rockland’s law enforcement community and supporters were in Nyack yesterday at the Brinks Memorial Marker by the Thruway entrance off Route 59. They blasted New York’s former governor Andrew Cuomo for granting clemency to Brinks Heist getaway driver David Gilbert, who was convicted in 1983 of seven counts of murder and robbery. Deputy County Executive Guillermo Rosa said he and the County Executive will fight year after year to keep Gilbert behind bars…
Mike O’Meara is president of the New York State Association of PBAs, and said too often criminals are favored over victims…
Gilbert has served 40 years of a 75-years-to-life sentence so far, and he’ll still need to convince the parole board if he’s going to be set free early. Nyack police sergeant Edward O’Grady, officer Waverly Brown and Brinks guard Peter Paige were killed in the heist.
