Testing of area wastewater continues in the search for potentially more polio victims in Rockland. County Executive Ed Day says it’s crucial to try to pinpoint the location of potential carriers…
Thus far, the CDC says 21 out of 260 wastewater samples from Rockland and Orange counties, about 8 percent, tested positive for poliovirus. Thirteen of the samples were from Rockland County, and eight were from Orange. The CDC says the findings underscore the need for people of all ages to be vaccinated. 2,152 polio vaccines have been given out in Rockland since that single confirmed case was detected last month. Day says if you’re not sure if you got the vaccination already, talk to your primary healthcare provider. The county health department is hosting a vaccine clinic next Wednesday, August 24th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Center in Spring Valley. Appointments are recommended but not necessary. You can also get the vaccine at the Pomona health complex Mondays and Wednesdays by appointment. Click here to make an appointment online. If you need help, call the health department at 845-238-1956.
