As the temperatures start to dip during the winter, area towns have shelters that folks can use to keep warm if necessary. In Stony Point, supervisor Jim Monaghan says their warming center at the Roh Building on Clubhouse Lane is usually open until ten at night…
Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says when it’s necessary, town hall will be used as a warming center…
Specht says to call town hall during the day with any questions or concerns, or after hours and on weekends contact the Ramapo Police non-emergency number at 845-357-2400. The county’s facility in Pomona, “The Inn,” is also open. Catholic Charities of Rockland operates the Warming Center, at the Yeager Health complex, which has 75 available beds and capacity for more, if necessary. The Inn is open each night regardless of the temperature and remains open during the day when the temperature, including wind chill, is 32 degrees or below.
