A Spring Valley couple that used shell companies to take money from a federal school subsidy program have been ordered to fork over a million dollars. That’s according to the Westchester Business Journal. The couple had pleaded guilty years ago to defrauding the FCC’s E-Rate program which brings communication services to schools in underserved areas. Peretz Klein was sentenced in June to four years in prison and two years of supervised release for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Susan Klein, got one year of supervised release for conspiracy to violate the laws of the United States. They and five other defendants from Rockland and Orange Counties got more than $14 million in funding from 2010 to 2016. They reportedly billed for equipment and services that were never provided and for services the schools already had.
