This week is International Fraud Awareness Week and Rockland’s gas and electric company is warning residents not to fall for scammers. Every day, customers tell O&R scammers have contacted them threatening to shut off their service. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says that’s nopt how it works, and he cautions customers not to divulge personal information to anyone…
Scammers will often try to steal by encouraging customers to make payments using methods that Donovan says O&R doesn’t use, including pre-paid debit cards, MoneyGram, Paypal, bitcoin, and apps like Venmo and Zelle. Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco says scammers prefer phone calls to try and trap their victims…
O&R says some impostors try to talk their way inside your home to steal things or cause harm. The company urges customers to ask anyone who claims to be from the company to show their company ID. If you’re still unsure whether the person is from Orange & Rockland, call 1-877-434-4100 to check.
