New City and California Men Charged with Hate Crime in Assault on UPS Driver on Saturday in Montebello

August 26, 2024 by Jeff Lewis

A New City man and a California resident have been charged with a hate crime after a UPS delivery man was assaulted Saturday in Montebello. Ramapo Police Chief Dan Hyman says 31 year-old Yitzchok Zucker of New City and 31 year-old Moshe Pepper of Mad River, California, are both accused of striking the driver with a water bottle and attacking him as he was making deliveries on Spook Rock Road in Montebello around 4:40 Saturday afternoon. Chief Hyman says they used racial slurs and tried to steal the keys to his delivery truck. The driver was not identified. Zucker and Pepper both face attempted robbery and attempted assault as hate crimes. The two were arraigned, released without bail, and are due back in Montebello Justice Court September 4th.
