A Supreme Court Judge recently delivered a setback for the town of Ramapo and the controversial Pascack Ridge development project. Late last month, a judge determined that the Town Board must redo part of its state environmental review before some 200+ houses can proceed through the land-use process. The Board also has to consider less dense alternatives to the high-density zoning approved three years ago. The suit was brought by a local CUPON group. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says the judge did rule favorably for the town in some aspects of the case…
The developer’s attorney has previously stated that the housing would be open to everybody, and not exclusive to any particular group. The property is nearly 28 acres off Pascack Road and Ewing Avenue. The Clarkstown Planning Board had also objected to the development fearing negative impacts on a nearby residential neighborhood in Nanuet. CUPON’s attorney told The Journal News the larger issue is the lack of affordable housing units, which was required as a basis for the original zone change to get the project started.
