31 migrants of unknown origin, possibly from Ecuador, including children, were found living in a modest New City home late last week. At an emergency press conference yesterday, Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann said some were found to be sleeping in the garage, the attic, and an unfinished basement. Hoehmann said the building department and police department Friday took the rare step of enforcing an administrative warrant for the home located at 295 New Hempstead Road, between Phillips Hill and West Clarkstown Road…
Hoehmann said the home was owned by a man named Shloima Koppel of Monsey, and that this was the only home in town he owned. Hoehman said the matter was being taken to State Supreme Court to begin eviction proceedings. Rockland County Executive Ed Day said since the migrant crisis began, Rockland social services have been stretched beyond their capacity…
Rockland Congressman Mike Lawler of the 17th District praised Hoehmann for working with the county to make sure homeowners follow the law…
Lawler says if it is found that New York City Mayor Eric Adams is the one who sent the migrants here, he should be held responsible. Where the home’s occupants will be sent to next was not disclosed.
