Grand Jury Could Get Drug Ring Case Tomorrow
The Middletown drug ring case that nabbed an Orange County fire lieutenant, a former Spring Valley cop and others could be presented to a grand jury tomorrow. Many of the nearly 30 defendants were arraigned Tuesday in Orange County Court. The Times Herald-Record reported bail ranged from $10,000 bond for one woman and up to $3 million bond for top defendants. 48 year-old Paul Smith of Deerpark is accused of using his firehouse in Middletown to operate the drug ring. He was ordered held without bail. 49 year-old John Beltempo of New Windsor, a former member of the Spring Valley Police Department, was also accused of selling cocaine, and 34 year-old Marquis Gamble of Nyack was charged with providing cocaine for others to sell.
Telephone Scam Claims Rockland Sheriff Threatens Arrest
There’s a telephone scam going around that claims to be coming from the Rockland County Sheriff’s office. In one case, the caller threatened to have the victim arrested. Sheriff Lou Falco told “The Morning Show” it is not their policy to call people and threaten arrest if money is not paid…
Falco says the caller had a very heavy southern accent. If you got a similar call, contact the Sheriff’s office at 845-638-5401. Falco says do not – under any circumstances – send any money to the caller.
Ramapo PD and Rockland Paramedics use NARCAN to Save OD Victim in Chestnut Ridge
Ramapo Police used NARCAN to save an overdose victim last night in Chestnut Ridge. Police say the 31 year-old woman was unresponsive with a weak pulse. Rockland Paramedics and the police gave her NARCAN twice, she started to breathe normally and was then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. No further information on her status was available.
Van Fire Temporarily Closes Route 202 in Ramapo
A vehicle fire last night temporarily closed Route 202 in Ramapo. It was an engine fire in a 1996 Ford Econoline van. Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 extinguished the blaze. No one was injured.
