Former Boulders catcher Marcus Nidiffer has been selected by fans to the All-Decade team. The voting is part of the team’s celebration of its tenth year. Nidiffer played for the Boulders for five seasons, retiring in 2018. He hit 89 home runs overall for the Boulders, with a career high of 22 homers and 93 RBIs in 2015. Clarkstown PD Investigating Shooting Friday in New City
At least one man was shot Friday afternoon in New City. Clarkstown Police say the shooting occurred around one in the afternoon near W. Burda Place in New City. Police say a 29 year-old man was shot in the face and the back. After driving himself to Nyack Hospital, he was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition. Police say area residents said they heard what sounded like a car accident followed by multiple gunshots. The other vehicle allegedly involved is described as a white sedan. On Saturday, a vehicle of interest in Friday’s shooting was spotted by the NYPD in the Bronx. The car was stopped after a chase by the NYPD, but it is not yet known if there’s a connection to the New City shooting. Cuomo said nursing homes continue to be the primary “feeding ground” for the virus. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says while he agrees with the governor’s approach to closing the state down, he thinks May 15th is too long to wait before we re-open again…
On Friday public and private golf courses were given permission to open again with strict social distancing restrictions. Boat docks were allowed to open over the weekend, as well. Meanwhile, the total number of cases of coronavirus across the state is now around 243,000 and 13,900 deaths, with almost 92-hundred reported cases, based on state figures, and 334 confirmed deaths here in Rockland.
Rockland County Clerk to NYS Governor: Open Real Estate Markets
Rockland’s county clerk is asking the governor to open up the commercial and residential real estate markets as a way for the economy to start to rebound. Paul Piperato says he agrees with the decision to extend the stay-at-home orders until May 15th, but opening up real estate can help get the money flowing quickly…
Over the weekend, the governor issued an Executive Order letting New Yorkers get a marriage license remotely and allowing clerks to perform ceremonies via video conference.
Nyack Fire Chief Dies Following Bout with Cancer
Nyack and Orangetown are mourning the passing of their former volunteer fire captain and chief, Brian Knecht, who died Friday following a bout with cancer. He’d been a volunteer since he was 16 and became captain for Orangetown Fire Co. No 1 and chief for the Nyack Fire Department. He was also a funeral home director for many years with Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons. A mass and firematic service honoring him will be held after the coronavirus quarantine ends. He was 50 years old.
