Issues Prompt Orangetown to Leave Hi-Tor for Hudson Valley Humane Society for Homeless Pet Services

The future of Rockland’s Animal Shelter has come into question after the town of Orangetown decided to use the Hudson Valley Humane Society for homeless pet services instead of Hi-Tor. Supervisor Teresa Kenny says the move away from Hi-Tor was primarily due to unsatisfactory reports and whistleblower complaints about the center. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says Hi-Tor’s management issues aren’t new, but the job they do still benefits the county…

Hi-Tor president Debbie DiBernardo says with or without the support of Orangetown, they will continue to provide care and adoption services for the more than 1,000 animals that are brought in each year.
