Rockland Under State of Emergency, O&R Crews on Standby, Schools and Others Announce Cancellations

Rockland’s County Executive issued a State of Emergency last night, banning travel on all county and local roads for all but essential business. A Winter Storm Warning has been in effect since last night through 6:00 AM tomorrow. Heavy snow between 18 to 24 inches could fall in the area, and winds of up to 35 mph. The Rockland County Department of Health has cancelled all clinics scheduled for today, and no COVID-19 vaccinations have been scheduled. Orange & Rockland has activated its emergency response teams to repair any damage and restore electric service if necessary, with more than 100 mutual aid overhead line technicians. All Rockland schools are closed with a snow day except for East Ramapo. They’re all-remote today while the Clarkstown, Nanuet, Nyack, Pearl River, South Orangetown, Suffern Central, and North Rockland school districts and BOCES are all taking a snow day.

Other Cancellations:
RCC campuses are closed for in-person classes and operations, but students should check with their instructors to see if classes will be offered remotely.

All Dominican College on-campus classes are cancelled, and all offices are closed, but fully online/remote classes will proceed as scheduled. Students should check with their teachers regarding remote class sessions.

All classes at St. Thomas Aquinas College will be conducted remotely. All employees will work from home. There will be essential personnel only on campus. Residences and dining halls remain open.

The Clarkstown Child Care Center will be closed today through February 5th and will reopen on Monday, February 8th.

TRIPS bus service is cancelled. They expect to resume the service as conditions allow. The TOR bus service has also been suspended until further notice. Visit for more information.

The Rockland County Warming Center for homeless single adults is open each night regardless of the temperature and remains open during the day when the temperature, including wind chill, is 32 degrees or below.

The village of Airmont says there won’t be any garbage pickup today, and perhaps tomorrow as well. That decision could come soon.

Students in Nanuet can take part in the Nanuet Junior Chamber’s first annual Snowman Building contest. Just build a snowman, take picture and send it via email to The contest runs all winter long. Winners will get a $20 gift card to a local restaurant.
