Spring Valley Police Cleared of Wrongdoing in Woman’s Death Last January

The New York State Attorney General’s Office has cleared Spring Valley police officers of criminal wrongdoing in the death of a woman last year. The Journal News reported last January that numerous 9-1-1 callers said 53 year-old Tina Davis was “busting people’s car windows and going crazy” and had attacked another woman. When they arrived at Fred Hecht Drive in the village’s Hill section, police had to Tase Davis to subdue her. The Associated Press says an investigation found her death was caused by a combination of cocaine and alcohol in her system, a preexisting heart condition and a seizure she suffered before resisting arrest. While a 16-page report cleared the officers involved, it was suggested the department offer better training for handling people with mental health issues. Attorney General Letitia James called Davis’ death a tragedy, not a crime. Spring Valley Police Chief Paul Modica didn’t respond to the AP’s request for comment.
