Potential MTA Cuts Could Threaten Rockland’s Few Commuting Options

The COVID situation could have a profound effect on public transportation and could bring Rocklanders’ commute into the city to a grinding halt. A plan that the MTA board is considering would drastically cut services and hike fares to fill large budget gaps next year. Without $12 billion in federal aid, the MTA says they could cut 40 percent of subway and bus service and up to 50 percent on commuter railroads, resulting in perhaps nearly 10,000 layoffs.
