Street by Rockland’s First Black Church to be Named in its Honor

The first black church in Rockland will be getting a historic marker and street naming tomorrow, a first for the North Rockland area. Virginia Norfleet is the founder of the Haverstraw African American Connection, and says the old African Methodist Episcopal Bethel Church on Clinton Street dates back to 1846, and was founded and built by slaves and free blacks…

The street will also be renamed “Haverstraw African American Connection Way.” The marker placement ceremony will take place at 1 pm tomorrow.
