Decision-making Over Which Industries Get to Open in NY Frustrates Local Lawmakers

A local lawmaker is frustrated with the lack of consistency when it comes to deciding what industries can open in New York State. Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt says the governor’s haphazard method of picking certain industries over others – gyms and bowling alleys and movie theaters for example – is maddening…

If you are in an industry that you feel is being ignored by the governor, call Assemblyman Schmitt’s office at 845-469-6929. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says the guidance from the state could have been better, and mistakes have been made long the way…

California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio and the Northern Mariana Islands have been removed from New York’s travel advisory, but Puerto Rico has been added. The governor says he has no plans for now to ban trick-or-treaters from going door to door on Halloween. New York’s positive COVID-19 test rate rose to 1 percent for first time in more than a month. The Journal News says the county’s infection rate is now higher than the mid-Hudson region and exceeding the statewide average. Rockland now has about a 2.3% infection rate, while it was 1.2% across the mid-Hudson region.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got three in the hospital being examined, another six have been confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 272 active cases. The state says we’ve got 14,617 reported cases, 36 more than yesterday, and the Rockland Health Department says we have 675 total fatalities.
