Area Lawmakers Review Utilities’ Performance Post-Tropical Storm Isaias

A Joint Senate and Assembly public hearing was held last week on the utility companies’ emergency storm response and customer communication during and in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias earlier this month. Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski participated in the hearing, and says burying major transmission lines are a good start, and fines can help, but only if the Public Service Commission ensures they aren’t passed along to ratepayers…

Zebrowski says while there were some improvements over O&R’s performance during Super Storm Sandy, many areas need to be addressed better. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann and other area supervisors addressed the panel and they’re expecting to review the storm response with O&R this week…

One positive thus far to come out of the storm, Hoehmann says, the cable lines on the causeway in Congers are being put underground in a multi-million dollar project undertaken by O&R. That should be finished in October.
