Decision on NY Schools Re-opening Expected This Week

Parents and teachers need to feel comfortable about schools re-opening, and the governor acknowledged yesterday they may not necessarily come back even though their school might re-open. Local districts were required to submit their re-opening plans to the state Friday, but Andrew Cuomo said if parents don’t like their school’s plans, the door could be slammed shut…

A decision on school re-openings is expected this week. In other Governor Cuomo news, he signed legislation yesterday giving the OK to the manufacture and sale of ice cream and other frozen desserts made with liquor. The governor says the bill will help New York’s dairy farmers, food retailers and others meet consumer demand for these treats. No word on how many wings you have to eat before you can enjoy a vodka-infused rocky road Chipwich.

And the nation’s largest summertime hot air balloon festival has been postponed. NJBiz.com says the New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning cites the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic limiting the size of outdoor gatherings as the reason. Up to 100 hot air balloons take to the skies in the annual three-day festival at Solberg Airport in central Jersey, attracting more than 150,000 people attend each year. It’s the first time since the event began in 1983 that it’s been cancelled for the summer. It’s slated to return July 23rd next year.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, in Rockland, we’ve got ten in the hospital being checked out, another four have been confirmed with coronavirus. The state says we’ve got 13,885 reported cases, 21 more than yesterday, and the Rockland Health Department confirms 674 fatalities here in the county, no change there for a week.
