U.S. Attorney Looks to File Civil Rights Discrimination Suit Against Airmont

The U.S. Attorney in Manhattan is reportedly looking to file a civil rights action against the village of Airmont claiming discrimination against Orthodox Jews. The Journal News reports the lawsuit alleges the village violated the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, charging Airmont’s zoning code limits the practice of religion. The Feds have twice won legal actions in court against Airmont since the village formed in 1991.
