Malls Permitted to Open Friday; Gyms Still on “Closed” List, but They’re Suing

And there was much rejoicing in West Nyack…malls are now included in Phase Four re-openings and starting tomorrow can open once again. In a press conference yesterday, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said it’s important for malls to have the right filtration systems…

In a statement, Palisades Center owner, Pyramid Management Group, said health and safety are a top priority, and they look forward becoming economic drivers once again. Additionally, all county fairs in the state have now been called off, following the recent cancellation of the state fair in Syracuse for the first time since the World War Two era. Area gyms aren’t happy about still being left out. They’ve filed a class action lawsuit against the state. In a statement to FoxBusiness, the governor’s office said it couldn’t comment on the suit, but said they’re looking to avoid a second wave like other states and gyms require “further study.” Casinos, amusement parks and movie theaters, including those inside malls, also remain closed.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, in Rockland, we’ve got six in the hospital being checked out, five have been confirmed with coronavirus. The state says we’ve got 13,679 reported cases, 11 more than yesterday, and the Rockland Health Department confirms 668 fatalities here in the county, unchanged since last Tuesday.
