Rockland to Mark Memorial Day in Online Ceremonies; List of Public Transportation Schedules

The COVID-19 situation has caused the cancellation of Memorial Day Parades and the watchfires in our area but that doesn’t mean there won’t be ceremonies. Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery and the Gary Onderdonk Veterans Memorial Cemetery will both be open throughout Memorial Day weekend to allow for visits. Social distancing, face-covering and the limit of ten people rules are in effect. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says there will be an observance at town hall on Monday…

In Haverstraw, supervisor Howard Phillips says the banners and wreaths they’re putting around town asking people to remember our veterans, can’t replace traditional services…

Orangetown will host a small online event as well, but supervisor Teresa Kenney says if the governor allowed it, a ceremony could have been held at town hall…

Clarkstown is holding a ceremony today at 10am but it is closed to the public. It can be viewed on the town’s Facebook page. The town of Ramapo will also live stream an event today on its Facebook page at 11AM. If you get a chance, check out the village of Suffern’s Facebook page they’ve got video of Memorial Day parades from the 60’s that you’ll probably enjoy.
