Rockland Jail Gets First Inmate with COVID-19; ACLU Report says Fewer Inmates Better for Overall Health

Reducing the jail population could reduce the COVID-19 death toll. That’s according to a new report from the ACLU, which says ending the 95-percent of arrests that don’t involve violent crime, and doubling the rate of release from jail, could save 23-thousand lives in jail and 76-thousand in the broader community. Here in Rockland, the jail has seen a handful of cases among staff, though all have recovered and since returned to work. Sheriff Lou Falco says none of the inmates has contracted the virus, though one recently did come in with it…

Falco says the inmate has responded well and has not taken a turn for the worse.
