Nyack and Orangetown are mourning the passing of their former volunteer fire captain and chief, Brian Knecht, who died Friday following a bout with cancer. He’d been a volunteer since he was 16 and became captain for Orangetown Fire Co. No 1 and chief for the Nyack Fire Department. He was also a funeral home director for many years with Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons. A mass and firematic service honoring him will be held after the coronavirus quarantine ends. He was 50 years old.
