Report: Lawmakers Come to Agreement on NYS Budget

The governor and legislative leaders reportedly came to an agreement on a budget late yesterday afternoon. Because the budget agreement came after the April first deadline, it was unclear when paychecks for about 120,000 state employees would arrive. In January, the governor had proposed a $178 billion budget for the new fiscal year, but the final size of the spending plan has not yet been released. The New York Post said the plan rolls back some of the criminal justice reform laws, in particular it will again allow judges to set bail on vehicular manslaughter, making a terroristic threat and for those defendants rearrested after release. Additionally, the Post said, there will be more state funding to help police departments and D-As comply with new discovery rules.
