Area Lawmakers Look to Repeal New NYS “Green Light” Law

Area state lawmakers are looking to repeal the Green Light law, which allows New York’s undocumented immigrants the right to get a driver’s license. Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt says the new law has created additional significant delays at already over-burdened DMVs and threatens national security. Western Ramapo and Orange County assemblyman Karl Brabenec says the law needs to be repealed entirely…

Brabenec has also sought to have the criminal justice reform laws repealed. Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski says fixing the reforms is at the top of the agenda in Albany…

The governor came out in favor of letting judges have more bail discretion, but Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has said it is too soon to change laws that barely went into effect less than two months ago.
