Report: Judge Presiding over East Ramapo School Trial Calls Witness Testimony “Not Credible”

The trial over the East Ramapo School District’s method of electing members continued in federal court yesterday, with the presiding judge calling the testimony of the school board’s president not credible. The Journal News said the judge was offended by Harry Grossman’s testimony as he was explaining the role Orthodox Jewish leaders play in board elections. The judge will decide whether the district’s at-large voting method discriminates against black and Latino voters and favors the area’s Orthodox community, which largely sends their children to private schools. The suit was filed by the Spring Valley NAACP and the New York Civil Liberties Union.
