Area Lawmakers, Emergency Services, Nudge Verizon to Improve Cell Service Near Rockland-Orange Border

For years area residents have complained about the lack of cell phone service in the area of Route 6 near the northern end of the Palisades Parkway and over into Orange County. Rockland and Westchester state senator David Carlucci was joined by emergency services and other area lawmakers at a press conference yesterday to call upon Verizon to put towers up and provide cell service to that area…

Verizon spokesman David Weissman told WRCR the company’s been working with the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and Homeland Towers to improve coverage. He said Verizon is committed to having network equipment on the new Homeland Towers sites, and other carriers will be able to join, though he did not give a time frame.
