Area Lawmakers Call for Passage of “Alyssa’s Law” to Require Silent Alarms in Public Schools

Area lawmakers held a press conference last week to call for every school in the state to have silent alarms in case of an active shooter or other emergency. Rockland assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, who sponsors the assembly version of the bill, said thoughts and prayers are not enough to protect students…

“Alyssa’s Law” is named for 14 year-old Alyssa Alhadeff, one of the victims at Parkland. Alyssa was 16 year-old Rockland resident Jadyn Turner’s cousin. Jadyn said school shootings happen far too often…

“Alyssa’s Law” has bills in the Senate and Assembly, they are both being discussed in committees and have not yet come to their floors for a vote.
