Poll: 2/3 of NYers say Keep the State Whole

The Siena poll says 25 percent support the idea of combining New York City with the downstate suburbs as one state, and the other 51 counties as another state, though it is unclear what defines “downstate suburbs” but it likely means Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Long Island are lumped in with the city. Assemblyman David DiPietro, whose district covers parts of Erie and Wyoming counties in western New York, has a petition looking to split the state into three.
