Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Opens New Hudson River Field Station in Piermont

The Columbia University Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Palisades celebrated the opening of their new Hudson River Field Station in Piermont last week. Former Piermont mayor Chris Sanders says mother nature helped get the ball rolling on the facility located at the end of the pier on Ferry Road…

Margie Turrin is the Director of the Education Field Programs at Lamont-Doherty, and says with the renovated space, scientists from the observatory can do research, while students, educators, and science-curious residents from the community can learn about the research being done right there along the Hudson…

The facility was originally built in the 1950s to service Lamont’s research vessels returning from the sea. For more information about it you can visit it at the end of Piermont’s pier, or check out Lamont-Doherty’s blog.
