Rockland Legislator: County Exec Should Have Consulted us Before Pulling out of HUD Fair Housing Program

A Rockland legislator is miffed that the county executive didn’t consult the legislature before withdrawing from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Fair Housing Assistance Program. Clarkstown Legislator Harriet Cornell says she’s pleased Rockland will still uphold and enforce fair housing laws…

Rockland County Executive Ed Day calls HUD’s requirements “onerous” and not the best fit for the county. Day says the county could get re-certification from HUD and join the program again in the future. If you have a fair housing issue, you can call the Commission on Human Rights at 845-364-3885. They’ll be hosting their next Fair Housing Symposium on October 16th at RCC.
