Rockland State Lawmaker Wants Car Makers to Install Rear Seat Detection System

Legislation has been introduced in the New York State Senate that would require car manufacturers to install a rear seat detection system on every motor vehicle sold in New York that would remind the driver there are people or pets still in the car. Rockland state senator David Carlucci says the “Heatstroke Elimination Awareness Technology” act, or HEAT, targets July 2021 for compliance. The bill comes after infant twins from New City died after their father left them in a hot car while he went to work. KidsAndCars.org says more than 900 children have died in hot cars nationwide since 1990.
