President Releases 2020 Spending Plan; Rockland Congresswoman Calls his Priorities “Misguided”

The president released his proposed 2020 budget yesterday and, predictably, Democrats in Congress aren’t too happy with it. Bloomberg reported the $4.7 trillion spending plan features one of the largest-ever cuts to domestic discretionary spending, boosts defense spending and adds $8.6 billion for the border wall. The top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, Rockland Congresswoman Nita Lowey, says the president’s priorities are misguided…

Lowey says the president’s plan would cut biomedical research by $5 billion, eliminate Preschool Development Grants, the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, arts in education and the Special Olympics. Bloomberg reported overall defense spending, among the president’s top priorities, would get a $1 trillion boost over 10 years, including $34 billion more in the next fiscal year.
