NY Democrats Look Forward to Progressive Agenda in 2019; Local Lawmakers Upset Gov. Vetoes Toll Payer Protection Act

With a Democrat for a governor and majorities in both houses of the state legislature, a local lawmaker hopes to move a more progressive agenda in 2019. Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee says the push-back they’ve gotten over the years should be gone…

But the governor has some area lawmakers upset with his veto on Friday of the “Toll Payer Protection Act.” The bill would have created more efficient billing under the cashless tolling system that’s been expanded around the state. Rockland State Senator David Carlucci said he’s disappointed in the governor’s decision to veto the bill, as he’s heard too many horror stories about commuters being improperly billed and fined…

Cashless tolling is now fully operational at all seven of the Thruway’s fixed-price toll barriers including the new Tappan Zee Bridge, Harriman, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Spring Valley plaza, which is for commercial vehicles only.
