Election Day 2018 Results

In locally-contested races, Rockland’s DA Tom Zugibe was the second top vote-getter in his race for State Supreme Court, so he’s in. Rosanna Sfraga squeaked by with about 600 votes more than her opponent to fill Orangetown’s town clerk position. Over in Suffern Democrats Paul Girard and Steven Alpert defeated Republican incumbents for Village Trustee. In Clarkstown, voters rejected proposals to extend terms of office from two years to four. In the Assembly…

  • 97th district (covers Orangetown and portions of Ramapo), Ellen Jaffee (I, D) defeated Chestnut Ridge Mayor Rosario Presti (R) by about a 2-1 margin.
  • 98th district (covers western Ramapo and portions of Orange County) Karl Brabenec (I, R) won re-election over challenger Scott Martens (D).
  • 99th district (covers North Rockland and portions of Orange County) New Windsor’s chief of staff, Republican Colin Schmitt defeated political newcomer, Democrat Matthew Rettig.

In the State Senate…

  • District 38 (covers Ramapo, Clarkstown and Orangetown and small part of Westchester) David Carlucci (I, D) topped former county executive, Republican Scott Vanderhoef by about a 2-1 margin.
  • District 39 (covers North Rockland, portions of Orange and Ulster counties) Assemblyman James Skoufis defeated Stony Point Town councilman, Tom Basile by about 6-thousand votes.

At the state level, Governor Andrew Cuomo easily won re-election for a third term. He gave a victory speech around 9:40 last night even as the Marc Molinaro campaign was clinging to hope that they could pull out a victory. Cuomo said he was gratified and humbled by the win…

Democrat Thomas DiNapoli won the Comptroller, and Democrat Letitia James won the race for Attorney General. On the national stage, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (I, D) easily defeated Republican Chele Farley.  Congresswoman Nita Lowey (I, D) easily won re-election over Reform Party candidate Joe Ciardullo.
