Senate and Assembly Candidates Debate in North Rockland; Gov. Candidates Get Heated in NYC

North Rockland residents heard Monday night from the four candidates vying for two seats in state government, one in the Assembly and the other in the Senate. Assemblyman James Skoufis, a Democrat, is running for retiring State Senator Bill Larkin’s seat. Skoufis is being challenged by Stony Point town councilman, Republican Tony Basile. In the Assembly, Democrat Matthew Rettig, a political newcomer, is running against Republican Colin Schmitt, the chief of staff for the town of New Windsor. The Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment hosted the event, and President George Potanovic says the topics ranged from term limits, climate change, taxes and corruption…

That wasn’t the only debate this week. Governor Andrew Cuomo and GOP challenger Marc Molinaro debated last night at WCBS. The debate got heated, with Molinaro accusing Cuomo of running a corrupt administration and Cuomo repeatedly attempting to get Molinaro to admit he is a supporter of president Trump, though he would not. They covered a wide range of topics, including the cost of living in New York State, the possibility of curtailing spending, the MTA, ethics, and mental health services.
