Clarkstown Shuts Public Pool Due to Shortage of Lifeguards

One of Clarkstown’s public pools has closed early for the summer due to a shortage of lifeguards. Though it was expected to be open until Labor Day, Congers Pool closed yesterday and isn’t likely to open again until Memorial Day next year. Supervisor George Hoehmann told “The Morning Show” yesterday the pools aren’t a money-maker for the town, they’re primarily a service for the town’s residents…

Hoehmann says the lifeguard shortage was attributed to students going back to school and some had to be let go during the season and weren’t replaced. An unusually high number of rainy days didn’t help attendance at any of the pools, either. Both Lake Nanuet in Nanuet and Germonds Pool in West Nyack were unaffected and will remain open through Labor Day.
