Congresswoman Lowey Slams as MTA Appears Unable to Make End-of-Year PTC Installation Deadline

Published reports yesterday indicated the MTA isn’t going to be able to install the Positive Train Control safety features on area train lines as they’re supposed to by the end of the year. That could cause further delays to getting back the express trains Rockland lost in June. Congresswoman Nita Lowey says the MTA has had 10 years and ample resources to complete the PTC installation…

The feds have given upwards of $2 billion in grants and loans to passenger railroads to implement PTC since 2008, when the Rail Safety Improvement Act, which required PTC for all passenger railroads, was made law. The deadline for installing PTC was extended three years when it was clear they were going to miss it in December 2015.
