The eastbound span of the new bridge is scheduled to open later this year. Meanwhile, 14 deck panels salvaged from the Tappan Zee Bridge will be heading to Orange County next week. The Westchester County Business Journal reports the panels will be used by the Orange County Department of Works in the construction of four highway bridges and two rail-to-trail bridges. County Executive Steven Neuhaus said Orange taxpayers will save $770,000 by using the recycled panels. The New York State Thruway Authority reportedly sold 150 of the panels for $1 each to public works agencies around the state willing to recycle them.
