Jury Deadlocks on Final Charge in Rockland Bus Case; Sentencing Scheduled for October

The jury deadlocked Friday on the 5th and final count in the federal corruption case against a former Rockland Bus company owner charged with failing to do bus maintenance work for Rockland BOCES. The U-S Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced Friday Richard Brega faces prison after being convicted last week on three counts of mail fraud and bribery, though he was acquitted on an obstruction of justice charge. U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said Brega “defrauded Rockland schools and the federal government, and put children at risk of riding unsafe buses.” The 50 year-old Stony Point resident will be sentenced in October.
