BOCES Teacher’s Aide Fired After Bringing Loaded Gun to West Nyack School; Charged with Felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon

A 24 year-old teacher’s aide at the Rockland BOCES Jesse Kaplan school in West Nyack has been fired after a loaded handgun was found in her purse at school this morning. Clarkstown Police Public Information officer Peter Walker says Gillian Jeffords of Warwick was arrested after a school staff member discovered the handbag in a classroom closet with what was determined to be a Ruger 9mm handgun…

The school was put on lockdown until the gun was secured by the school’s resource officer. Jeffords was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, a felony. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Clarkstown Criminal Court on May 7th.  BOCES spokesman Scott Salotto says at no time was any student ever in danger. Salotto says the board met this evening and fired the teacher.
