Report: Mix of Housing and Retail Green-lit for Mahwah Crossroads

The township of Mahwah has approved 800 housing units and 300,000 square feet of retail space for the Crossroads property on Route 17 near the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel. A large shopping mall had been proposed for the former Ford Motor Company site years ago, but traffic on Route 17 and 287 and quality-of-life concerns had held that project up. NorthJersey.com reports there’ll be 600 multi-family apartments and 200 senior housing units, according to the deal that the township and Crossroads Developers Associates agreed to. There is also expected to be retail space, including at least one big-box retailer. Development could occur in phases over five to 10 years, although an actual timeline is not known.
