O&R: 5,000 Customers Still Out; Gearing up for New Storm

Jumping from one storm to another…O&R has just about restored power to almost all Rocklanders knocked out from Friday’s storm, though about 4,000 O&R customers remain without electricity as of 10pm Monday. Now they’re preparing for the next storm, expected to hit later tonight. O&R has declared a Storm Watch and is preparing for more downed wires and power outages. People are urged to stay away from those downed wires, but to report them if any are spotted. The company also stresses customers not to use natural-gas powered kitchen ovens to heat their homes because they create a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Area fire departments also are asking residents to keep fire hydrants near their homes accessible by clearing them of snow and ice. Hydrants should have a 3-foot perimeter and a clear path to the street.
