Most O&R Customers’ Power Restored; about 5,600 Still Out

Power was still out for about 5,600 O&R customers as of 10pm last night due to Friday’s storm. The storm is to blame for the death of an 11-year-old Putnam Valley boy, who was killed when a tree crashed into his home. High winds on the Tappan Zee Bridge are believed to be responsible for two separate tractor trailer accidents Friday afternoon that brought traffic to a standstill for hours. Several barges from Dobbs Ferry to Palisades Park New Jersey broke free and had to be corralled on the Hudson River by the Coast Guard. Even Sunday’s Penguin Plunge in Nyack had to be postponed to this coming Sunday. Governor Andrew Cuomo Sunday declared a state of emergency for Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan and Westchester counties.
