A tax attorney formerly from New City pleaded not guilty to charges he embezzled $3.5 million from a client’s estate and used the funds to buy a house in Southampton. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said 57 year-old Steven Etkind was arrested last week and charged in federal court with conspiracy to defraud, obstructing IRS laws and tax evasion. He was released on $500,000 bond. He faces up to 13 years in prison, if convicted.
