Rockland Retirees, Union Leaders and Legislators Celebrate Healthcare Battle

Rockland retirees, union leaders and county legislators congratulated each other for fighting to keep their current healthcare plan. Earlier this year the county executive announced plans to switch from the United Healthcare Empire Plan through New York State Health Insurance Program to Aetna Medicare Advantage, but reversed course when some questionable Aetna policies were exposed in an unrelated lawsuit in California. Despite the reported cost savings that would have come with a change in healthcare plans, the county executive put the brakes on the switch earlier this month, saying no changes would be made for the foreseeable future.
