Defense Objects to Use of Clip from “The Sopranos” in Corruption Trial of Former Cuomo Aide

Prosecutors in the corruption trial of a former aide to the governor will not be able to show a clip from the HBO TV show, “The Sopranos.” Published reports say federal prosecutors in Joe Percoco’s corruption trial claim he used the word “ziti” in emails to refer to bribery money. Prosecutors claim the term came from an episode of the show, but the judge isn’t allowing it. The defense objected to the description as prejudicial, saying it stereotypes Italian-Americans. Percoco is charged with accepting more than $300,000 in bribes from business developers upstate.
