Former Orangetown Supervisor and Legislator, John Lovett, Dies at 97

Funeral services have been set for John Lovett, Rockland County’s first legislature Chairman and formerly an Orangetown Supervisor, who died on Sunday. He was Orangetown Supervisor from 1966 to 1971. In 1970 the county went from a Board of Supervisors system of government and he helped to create the Rockland County Legislature. Following his stint in the Legislature, he was appointed director of the Rockland County Department of Fiscal and General Services, a fancy title for “County Executive.” He returned to the private sector after leaving county government several years later. Visitation will be held at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River today from 3-5 and 7-9. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Pearl River’s St. Margaret’s Church tomorrow morning at 10. He was 97 years old.
