Reports: CEO of Golden Krust, Which Planned to Move to Rockland, Found Dead of Self-inflicted Gun Shot Wound

The founder and CEO of a company that had planned to move its Bronx headquarters to Orangetown was found dead over the weekend, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Originally from Jamaica, 57 year-old Lowell Hawthorne was found in the Bronx offices of Golden Krust, a Caribbean food producer, around 5:30 Saturday night. Two years ago the company bought 17 acres just off Route 303 in Blauvelt and planned to build its $37 million world headquarters there, featuring an operations and distribution center. Lowell opened his first Golden Krust store in the Bronx in 1989. Police continue to investigate the incident.
